Dat heeft Daisy Opdebeeck goed gedaan!Daisy Opdebeeck zette een knappe prestatie neer op het Lions World Songfestival for the Blind in Polen. Onze Belgische inzending geraakte vlot door de strenge halve finales en mocht als één van de tien beste van de hele wereld aantreden in het statige theater van Krakau. Tijdens haar song ‘Hold me now’ begeleidde de blinde Daisy zichzelf op de piano en werd ze ondersteund door een filharmonisch orkest. Het goud was voor Ierland, maar voor haar ontroerende prestatie werd Daisy beloond met de vijfde plaats én kreeg ze ook de Prijs van de plaatselijke regering. “Dankzij de hele festivalweek werd dit verdrietig jaar toch nog een positief verhaal.”Krakau, Polen – Na een week van repetities en halve finales was de opluchting zaterdagmiddag groot bij de Belgische delegatie die massaal was afgezakt naar Krakau: Daisy was bij de laatste tien en dus geselecteerd voor de finale van het World Song Festival. Op zich al een prestatie, want de jury roemde het hoge niveau van de dertig geselecteerden uit alle uithoeken van de wereld. “De finale halen was eigenlijk het doel”, zegt Daisy. “Alles daarna was meegenomen, want dat kan je toch niet voorspellen.”Het tot de nok gevulde barokke theater van Krakau vormde het imposante decor van de live show. Toen Daisy als voorlaatste kandidaat naar de piano begeleid werd, gingen in de zaal tientallen Belgische vlaggen de lucht in. Daisy zorgde aan de piano voor een kippenvelmoment met haar autobiografisch nummer ‘Hold me now’. “Exact een jaar geleden zat ik in zak en as door het plotse overlijden van mijn papa, mijn grootste steun”, aldus een positieve Daisy. “Toch kan zelfs uit de verdrietigste momenten iets moois groeien danzkij de steun en liefde van zoveel mensen. En daar gaat het nummer ‘Hold me now’ over. Ik draag dit resultaat dan ook op aan al mijn vrienden die me zo hard gesteund hebben. En ook aan mijn overleden mama en papa natuurlijk.”De eerste prijs ging naar Songfestival-land Ierland. Zij vaardgigden een gezin af met allen een oogbeperking die samen het meerstemmige ‘Classic Harmony’ brachten. Toch blikt Daisy tevreden terug. “Dit was een overgetelijke ervaring dankzij alle vrijwilligers en Lions-sympathisanten die mij onwaarschijnlijk gesteund hebben.” Ook de Poolse Regering zag dat het goed was en beloonde Daisy meteen met deze unieke regeringsprijs. En al die sympathisanten zijn intussen terug thuis, klaar om even enthousiast te supporteren voor Daisy in Belgium’s Got Talent.

Lokale Lions Club maakt Kasteel van Gaasbeek tastbaar

10th anniversary of the German-speaking Lions in Brussels
At beautiful late summer temperatures, the Lions Club Brussels-Charlemagne celebrated its 10th anniversary on 15 September. In addition to members, guests and sponsors, numerous founding members and Ghislaine Estiévenart, governor of Lions District 112c, were present.
Club President Janine Palmersheim not only looked back on many successful Lions activities over the last 10 years, but also presented the sugar-sweet 4-paw recipient of this year’s charity event: The Golden Retriever “Cairo” with co-founder and director Vanessa Wey of the charity Association Os’mose ASBL in Liège. In November, the sale of the well-known advent calendar will start. The proceeds are used to finance the training of „Cairo” to become an assistance dog.
Another highlight was the panel discussion with founding members Peter
Kallert and Thorsten Diercks, as well as Vanessa Wey and Christine Collard,
coordinator of Cité Sérine.
The round was moderated by the current treasurer Matthias Munny. In addition to
anecdotes about the founding phase of the club as well as the connecting
values, the activities of Os’mose and Cité Sérine were in the foreground.
Cité Sérine is a hospice that helps adult patients and children with serious illnesses. In the foreground is the best possible preservation of the quality of life. The Brussels-Charlemagne Lions Club has a long-standing and successful partnership with Cité Sérine. Thus, the hospice has already been supported several times in necessary investments.
The afternoon was a successful conclusion with a raffle, in which the guests could win Swiss specialties. The proceeds did go to the benefit of Cité Sérine.
The German-speaking Lions Club Brussels-Charlemagne is a dynamic, active association, which cares for the support and assistance of people in need in Brussels and the surrounding area. In the past 10 years, the volunteer members have been able to collect and donate over 130,000 euros. The club meets twice a month, to which German-speaking interested are cordially invited. Environ 300 membres Lions sont venus de tout le pays pour se réunir lors de la convention annuelle. Les travaux de l’association ont été approuvés au niveau national. Il est remarquable que cette année, il y avait aussi des délégations étrangères telles que le Lions Club du Liban, l’Estonie, les Pays-Bas, le Luxembourg, la France et l’Allemagne.
